Job Description  

The B2C Lubricants Technology development team – part of the Global Commercial Technology organization in Projects & Technology – is a distributed team located principally in US, Germany and China. The team’s primary purpose is to support Shell´s business growth objectives by developing and supporting technology-leading PCMOs (Passenger Car Motor Oils) for use with key automotive manufacturers (OEMs), and to develop differentiated products and claims for our key consumer brands (Pennzoil, Quaker State, Shell Helix, Shell Advance).

 

The European PCMO Project Leader position has these two key purposes: 

To develop and formulate branded and OEM specified PCMOs together with suppliers and to deliver differentiated RTBs and Claims for the relevant portfolio of products

To lead and co-ordinate the broad portfolio of technology activities supporting OEM relationships and business development, with a specific focus on Global Key Accounts with European presence

These development responsibilities should be seen in the context of the significant technology change that is occurring in the Automotive industry focused on CO2 and other regulated emissions reduction. A core objective of the PCMO development team is therefore to develop products that demonstrate Shell’s Technology-leading capability delivered through use of Shell GTL base oils combined with expert PCMO product formulation capability.

 

Responsibilities of the role include:

Leading specific product development activities including formulation definition with a likely focus on Automotive OEM applications

Coordination of co-engineering teams and Project working group meetings, ensuring delivery of projects and development of a project pipeline relevant for OEM needs

Provision of technology support to relevant Global Key Account Core teams and other related business forums to ensure that Shell Technology opportunities for differentiation and business growth are fully exploited. This responsibility covers both factory fill and aftermarket opportunities

Plan and lead Shell Helix product, RTB and Claims development projects. A key expectation of this role is to work collaboratively with project leaders in PCMO Development, Discovery Hub, Engine Operations and third party providers as required, ensuring efficiencies with other RTB and Claims developments and Co-engineering projects with key OEMs

 

Requirements    

Research science or engineering background (PhD or Master degree)

Extensive lubricant and/or fuel product and additive knowledge, with strong demonstrated lubricant product formulating skills (preferrably for engine oils)

Understanding of automotive engineering demonstrated either through education or in-job experience and genuine interest in automotive technology

Knowledge of automotive lubricants applications and related current industry specifications required

Strong commercial/business aptitude

Strong team-working, interpersonal & networking skills demonstrated in a distributed cross-functional environment, operating to demanding technical targets and deadlines

Proven record of delivery, with evidence of drive and creativity coupled with a structured and disciplined approach to project management

Proven ability to work directly with other Shell functions and 3rd parties to deliver solutions

Innovative and creative approach to problem solving
